01 / The image beside your work

Let the portrait introduce the person.

Your author or speaker photo may appear on a book jacket, conference page, interview announcement or publisher biography. Each layout asks something slightly different of the image. Bradford plans the portrait around your voice, audience and actual uses, with direction throughout the session.

Bring your publisher’s specifications, speaker-kit examples and any upcoming deadlines. If the designer needs room for a headline, we should leave that room while photographing. Your ear should not have to negotiate for it afterward.

02 / A practical press kit

Give the organizer a useful choice.

Author & book publicity

Plan a recognizable author portrait for publisher pages, biographies and press. Share jacket-design references and whether the image needs to feel intimate, formal, playful or understated.

Speaker & conference profiles

A conference program often needs a clear thumbnail, while a presentation announcement may need a wider image. Bring organizer requirements and plan crops that support those layouts.

Podcasts, interviews & media

A wider portrait, a tighter headshot and a relaxed alternate can serve different announcements. Decide what your actual press kit lacks before booking extra looks.

03 / Headshot or wider portrait library

A cover has a brief. So should the shoot.

One strong headshot, or a fuller set of publicity portraits.

A focused headshot session works when you need a current biography image. For wardrobe changes, wider compositions and a broader press library, compare the PR Kit and Personal Branding Photography options.

Browse the publicity portfolio and executive portraits for visual direction. References help explain what you like without requiring you to become the person in the example.

04 / Wardrobe & expression

Dress for the work, not a fictional panel discussion.

Choose clothing that feels credible for your subject, audience and public presence. A jacket can add structure; a simpler layer can make the portrait more personal. Bring a few coordinated options and discuss how they fit the number of looks in your session.

Props should earn their place. A book, notebook or chair can make sense for a wider publicity image when planned; a clean headshot should still stand on its own. Bradford guides posture and expression, so no rehearsed “thoughtful author gaze” is required.

05 / Before the deadline

Plan the handoff before the announcement.

Tell Bradford the publication or event deadline, the number of selected finals, required orientation and any publisher or organizer specifications. Confirm permitted uses, retouching scope and delivery needs for the project.

Current studio and PR Kit rates are on the pricing page. Start with Shoot Prep and send the project brief if your campaign needs a custom session.

Before you book

Author and Speaker Headshots questions

Can I use the portraits for my book jacket and speaker kit?

Describe both uses before booking so framing, final files and usage requirements can be agreed for the project. Bring your publisher’s or organizer’s specifications.

Should I book headshots or a PR Kit?

A headshot session fits a focused biography update. A PR Kit or custom branding session suits a broader publicity library. Compare the options on the pricing page.

Can we make both serious and more relaxed portraits?

Yes. Plan meaningful variations in expression, wardrobe and composition around the selected session. The goal is a useful range that still feels like you.

Do I need to bring a book or props?

Only when they serve the planned image. Discuss props in advance, and include a clean portrait that remains useful as your work evolves.
